Shed Less Tears with Latex Gloves

Are you tired of crying every time you cut an onion?

Betty and her Misfit Crew don't care what anyone says, there is NO "sure fire" way to solve this problem. There are, however, a few things you can do to minimize your snotty nose and watery eyes.

People have said to her in the past, "The more you cry, the more flavorful the dish.” No, it is not because your tears fall into the dish. The truth is that the more potent the onion (which translates to more tears), the fresher it is. The older the onion, the less potent and therefore less flavorful it is.

Betty suggests investing in a pair of goggles and a box of vinyl or latex gloves, which can be found at your local hardware or medical supply store. Before purchasing the gloves, make sure they are safe for use in the food service industry.

• Before touching an onion, slip on the goggles and the pair of gloves.

• Once you peel and cut the onion in half, quickly rinse both halves under water and pat dry with a paper towel.

• After cutting the first half, rinse you hands under water.

• Continue cutting the second half.

• Upon completion, dispose of the gloves and remove goggles.

Again, you will most likely shed a tear or two (if it’s fresh) but it will be better than Niagra Falls.

P.S. DO NOT touch your face at any time during the process, otherwise your flood gates are open!
