Fudge Brownies

The Misfit Crew (made up of 3 women and 3 men) and I decided to find the best Store Bought Fudge Brownie Mix. We rated six mixes of varied brands. We were diligent in keeping the playing field even by baking them all in the same 8” x 8” glass pan, following the directions exactly as written for fudge brownies.   

Brownies can be made two ways, with decadent fudge like consistency or a moist cake-like consistency. Everyone has his or her favorite but personally, I am split down the middle. My mood and the time of month dictates which sweet treat I will prefer. At the end of the day, chocolate is chocolate … or is it?

I prefer making brownies from the box due to its ease and quickness of preparation. No matter which box you choose, you only have three ingredients to add: Water, Oil and Eggs. You can’t get much easier then that! As you can see below, there is a slight difference in measurements from one brand to the other and with such differences; we were prepared for big differences in taste and brownie texture.

Notes: Light and cake-like on the outside and moist on the inside. Combines both properties of fudge and cake. Rated best All-Around!


Pillsbury Chocolate Fudge Sugar Free Brownie Mix

You Will Need:            3 Tablespoons Water, 1/3 Cup Oil, 1 Egg
Oven Temperature:    350°F
Pan Size:                     9” x 9”    26 - 30 Minutes
Pan Size:                     8” x 8”    28 - 32 Minutes
Supermarket Cost:     $ 3.19

Texture: ★★★✩✩
Sweetness: ★★★★★
Overall: ★★★★✩
Notes: Consistency is too much like fudge candy, though it is very moist. It is more chewy then gooey. Despite the overly soft consistency, the flavor is good. This Sugar Free Mix was surprisingly delightful and is a great alternative to Duncan Hines.


Ghiradelli Chocolate Ultimate Fudge Brownie Mix

       1/4 Cup Water, 1/3 Cup Vegetable Oil, 1 Egg

Pan Size:                   8” x 8”    (Metal) 39 – 43 Minutes
                                                (Glass) 44 – 48 Minutes

Notes: It has a stronger fudge flavor but it is a bit to sticky. It is not as sweet as Betty Crocker Ultimate Fudge. It is firm, yet creamy.

Notes: It is moist and fugdy but to the point of gooey. It is too sweet with a slight artificial chocolate taste.

Notes: Overly sweet with the flavor of artificial sweetness. Moist and fudgy in flavor. Has a slight cake-like consistency.

Notes:
There is a funky after taste. Cake-like brownie consistency with a slight fudge flavor
